The Bachelor of Arts in American Multicultural Studies provides students with critical thinking and leadership skills to navigate the multicultural and multiracial American landscape. 

The program offers structured pathways in Africana studies, comparative ethnic studies, hemispheric studies, critical race, gender and sexuality studies, literature and the arts, multicultural education, and Native American studies. This flexible curriculum allows students to tailor their academic experience to their individual interests while preparing for diverse professional and graduate pathways. This program also features an American Multicultural Studies minor.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

  • Study the roles of race and ethnicity in U.S. society, both historically and today.
  • Analyze how economic and political forces intersect with race and ethnicity in the United States.
  • Understand the aesthetic and creative contributions of U.S. non-whites.
  • Address the representation of racial and ethnic minorities in American culture, history, and politics.
  • Understand the relationships between ideology and power.
  • Study the intersectional natures of race, ethnicity, class, gender, religion, region, nationality, and other factors.
